How to Play Ed Sheeran – Afire Love – The Easy Way

Ok so a student asked to play this song. I couldn’t find any thing out there that would work for just an acoustic guitar. So I came up with this. I submitted it to Ultimate Guitar but they rejected it… Go figure. Have fun. It’s probably my favorite song on the album!

A Little Different Way to play this great song...

[Intro]
Am - F - Dm - G

[Verse 1]
Am G/B Am
Things were all good yesterday
                              C/E F
And then the devil took your memory
                         C/E F
And if you fell to your death today
                                   Am
I hope that heaven is your resting place
                             G/B C
I heard the doctors put your chest in pain
                                  C/E Dm
But then that could have been the medicine
                            C G/B
And now you're lying in the bed again
                                      F
Either way I'll cry with the rest of them

[Pre-Chorus]
F C/E Am
And my father told me, Son,
              Fmaj7 G/B C
It's not his fault he doesn't know your face,
F C/E Am
And you're not the only one
             Fmaj7 C/E C G/B Riff
Although my grandma used to say, "he used to say"

Darling hold me in your arms the way you did last night
               G Am
And we'll lie inside for a little while he wrote
Am C/E F C/E F
I could look into your eyes until the sun comes up
                      G Am
And we're wrapped in light, in life, and love
              C/E F C/E F
Put your open lips on mine and slowly let them shut
               G Am
For they're designed to be together oh
              C/E F C/E F
With your body next to mine our hearts will beat as one
                G Am
And we're set alight, we're afire love, love, love oh

Am G/B Am
Things were all good yesterday
                              C/E F
Then the devil took your breath away
                        C/E F
And now we're left here in the pain
                                       Am
Black suit, black tie standin' in the rain
                     G/B C
And now my family is one again
                                     C/E Dm7
Stapled together with the stranger's and a friend
                                   C/E G/B
Came to my mind I should paint it with a pen
                          F
Six years old I remember when

[Pre-Chorus]

[Chorus]
Am C/E F C/E F

A little bit different version of the Doobie Brothers Classic, Long Train Running. This version makes it a bit easier for people that aren't so good with
their barre chords. But it's also just a really cool arrangement for solo acoustic players!

Tuning:Standard Tuning - Capo 2

Bm G A Em (Repeats through out the verse)

Just a castaway, an island lost at sea, oh
Another lonely day, with no one here but me, oh
More loneliness than any man could bear
Rescue me before I fall into despair, oh
G Cadd9 D
I'll send an S.O.S. to the world 2X
Em Cadd9
I hope that someone gets my 3X
Bm Gmaj7 Bm/F#
Message in a bottle, yeah
Bm Gmaj7 Bm/F# Em
Message in a bottle, yeah

A year has passed since I wrote my note
But I should have known this right from the start
Only hope can keep me together
Love can mend your life but
Love can break your heart

I'll send an S.O.S. to the world 2X
I hope that someone gets my 3X
Message in a bottle, yeah 4X

Walked out this morning, don't believe what I saw
Hundred billion bottles washed up on the shore
Seems I'm not alone in being alone
Hundred billion castaways, looking for a home

2nd Chorus and then Sending out an SOS

Hope you enjoy it!
